How It Works

  • Select any text on a page and click the green button that appears — the translation panel opens.
  • For a single word, dictionary results and detailed meanings are shown automatically.
  • Right-click anywhere and choose Translate full page to translate the entire page; use Exit full page translation to restore it.
  • Click the extension icon to set the default target language and toggle the selection button.

PRIVACY POLICY

At "Cevher Translate" ("Extension"), we prioritize your privacy and data security. Our extension does not collect, transmit, or share any of your personal data. Everything is processed locally in your browser and translated text is only sent to translation services to retrieve results.

1. Data Collection and Usage

The extension handles the following data only to provide its single purpose, which is translating text and web pages:

a) Locally Stored Data

Your preferences — the default target language and whether the selection button is shown — are stored only on your own browser using Chrome's chrome.storage.sync API. No personal data, browsing history, or page contents are stored by the extension.

b) Network Requests

To provide translations, the extension sends the text you select (or the text content of the page, when you activate full-page translation) to Google and Microsoft translation services. These requests are made only to retrieve translation results and are not used for tracking, analytics, advertising, or any other purpose. No browsing history or personal information is transmitted.

c) Local Dictionary

For single-word Arabic lookups, the extension uses a dictionary file bundled with the extension itself. This lookup happens entirely on your device, without any network request.

2. Permissions and Justifications

Our extension requests the following permissions in the manifest.json file:

  • "storage": Required to save your preferences (default target language and selection button visibility) locally in your browser.
  • "contextMenus": Required to add the "Translate full page" option to the right-click menu.
  • "tabs": Required to detect the language of the current page and manage the on/off state of full-page translation per tab.
  • Host permission for translation services (translate.googleapis.com, clients5.google.com, edge.microsoft.com): Required to send the text you want translated to these services and receive the translation result.
  • Content script on all websites (<all_urls>): Required to show the translation button when you select text, and to translate the text content of a page when you activate full-page translation. Page content is only sent to translation services when you explicitly request a translation.

3. Data Security

Cevher Translate does not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties. It does not use your data for any purpose other than providing translations, and it does not use it for advertising or credit-related purposes. Your preferences remain under your full control and can be changed or removed at any time from the extension settings.
